The Sons of Bido Lito: Sunderland's Garage Psych Rockers to Launch Single & Showcase in London

The Sons of Bido Lito, a brilliant new garage/psych outfit from Sunderland are poised for bigger things this year . On their debut "Avalance" single  on Dirty Water Records  they eschew the more fashionable strands of psychedelia in favour of a darker and more menacing sound; scuzzy, cinematic, not out of place alongside the fantastic nightmares of Joe Meek’s more sinister sounding recordings.

A recent review of the Sunderland lads new vinyl offering sums up what everyone at Dirty Water Records was thinking when we first heard them: "For us it took barely a handful of seconds to be enthralled to Avalanche, the song winding a juicy flirtatious guitar groove around ears, it almost instantly joined by the bulging muscle of commanding and enticing beats. Another breath sees further guitar shimmering seducing the senses and a rumbling dark bassline whipping up the emotions. Fair to say already every aspect of the song comes with an addictive virulence which only grows and intensifies over time. The garage rock stomping spawned by riffs and rhythms alone just dangles impossible not to take a bite at bait in the lure of the song, that incessant tempting leading to a host of keen and imposingly gripping hooks, juicy grooves, and the great effect wrapped vocals of guitarist Phill Houghton."

"Surf rock hues soak the melodic enterprise whilst bass and beats taunt with a tone and infectiousness lying somewhere between The Cramps and Bo Diddley. Overall the song, drawing as much on the flavourings of artists like The Sonics and Dave Edmunds as it does those like Reverend Horton Heat and Th’ Legendary Shack Shakers, finds a unique spot in a bordering on psychotic landscape which is quite simply sixties spawned rock ‘n’ roll alchemy perfect for any era".

While their love for sixties psych is easy to see, with writers comparing them to The Coral, in the van on tour they’ll be playing Little Richard one minute, The Jam the next, followed by some Jamaican ska and rocksteady, and then the Everly Brothers. “It’s a good mix,” says the band. The wide mixture of influences allows them to create a unique sound, with no comformities or strict genres to stick to, moving away from the conventions of modern music and creating their own personality as a band.
