VIDEO PREMIERE: Weird Omen - "The Goat"

Two LPs and four singles in, Weird Omen still evade direct comparisons to … anyone. Descriptions abound: “Primitive garage, a deluge of trash brass, reverb, and fuzz”, “a crypto-hypnotic garage trance, blending ‘60s tones and psychedelic neo-garage”, and “France’s strangest garage-psych-rock trio – comprised of guitar, sax, and drums. Lost somewhere between The Cramps and The Jesus and Mary Chain”. In that way, Weird Omen are quite a unique prospect in the burgeoning French garage scene. Theirs is an internal succubus put on for all to see.
There’s a rich pedigree here too: King Khan & the Shrines , Bee Dee Kay & the Roller Coaster, Lost Communists, Limiñanas, We Are Not Indians, Escobar, The Anomalys. The lineup is straightforward, if unusual; a storming rhythm section comprised of drummer Remi Pablo and guitarist Sister Ray and what can only be described as a lead baritone saxophonist, Fred Rollercoaster.
Spill Magazine are pleased to premiere “The Goat” off their third album, Surrealistic Feast which is a ten-track descent into their inner madness; the band harness hellish energy to send the listener through a swirling nightmarish journey of gothic psych garage rock.
The band are always at one with each other to push the songs in unison. There is no sudden jerk, no need for one to fly off in another direction, no solo that rises above the collective, and that serves to add to the density of the demonic drive of the band. But at the blackened heart of it all is the spirit of garage and rock ‘n’ roll.
