Archie and the Bunkers reveal "Mystery Lover" - new EP release

Since the release of their debut album on Dirty Water Records at the tail end of last year, Archie & the Bunkers have been on the trip of a lifetime before even graduating high school. Now the teenage siblings have only just arrived back at their Cleveland, Ohio home – the same land that gave birth to Pere Ubu, Devo, Lux Interior, Electric Eels, Screamin’ Jay Hawkins, Rocket From the Tombs, the Human Switchboard, to Brainiac, the New Bomb Turks, Greenhornes, Pagans, Dead Boys, Rubber City Rebels and the Alarm Clocks – from a massive tour around Europe and it’s time for this new record, a six-track 12-inch, to hit the record stores.

Before the release of the album they had built up a solid fanbase locally and played enough live shows to get good and tight, including high profile support slots with the likes of the Sonics, Flamin’ Groovies, Dick Dale, the Rezillos and Oblivians. Their last show before the European tour was on 1 April and by all accounts it was “insane”.

As drumming singer Emmett recounts, “People were going nuts. They were hanging from the lighting on the ceiling, crowdsurfing and stuff like that. It was a great send off because it was our tour kickoff party, and everybody was going absolutely crazy. We sold-out the venue way over capacity.”

Uber Rock describe their sound as a “post pre punk keyboard-driven racket with Moon the Loon drum style and fuzzed-up vocals” and plead with us to not be “fooled by the boys' tender ages because they hide a snarling all action rock n roll beast.

Considering there is just two of them, my God, they make a racket and it’s not simply style over substance either. “ Indeed, they go on to say: “Lux would have loved his Cramps to sound like this before he popped his mortal coil.” Wow! Higher praise we cannot imagine!

The band themselves call it “Hi-Fi Organ Punk.” It’s a raw and explosive garage-punk sound but which draws heavily from diverse musical influences, ranging from jazz organ greats like Jimmy Smith and Richard ‘Groove’ Holmes, to punk icons like the Dead Boys, Stooges, The Screamers, Damned, and more. Or as Emmett describes it: “Rock’n’roll that’s been peeled back to its raw foundation.”

Archie and the Bunkers will be appearing at this years Goner Festival in Memphis, TN.
