Crunchy Frog & Dirty Water Records - London Showcase: Powersolo, The Tremolo Beer Gut & Oh! Gunquit
'Crunchy Club' is a string of showcases brought to you by Crunchy Frog Records ( Junior Senior, The Raveonettes, Jenny Wilson, Heavy Trash etc). The Danish label are teaming up with their friends from London's Dirty Water Records curating the finest new artists - bringing together both fans and industry participants for one night only to the Dalston Victoria in London on February 4th.
Based in Copenhagen, Denmark, Crunchy Frog Recordings was founded in 1994 by the four members of the band THAU. Though no longer underground, the philosophy remains the same: Releasing quality alternative music giving bands full creative control. For over 20 years Crunchy Frog have developed some of the worlds best breakthrough artists and share offices – and staff – with the music publishing company Crunchy Tunes and the promotion wizards at Bobkat Agency.
In case you wondered, the name of the label is borrowed from a Monty Python sketch about a pair of policemen who question the head of a confectioners about his new product, “The Whizzo Quality Assortment”, which includes “Crunchy Frog”.
The London showcase will feature three amazing bands and lots and lots of merriment throughout -and is FREE for everyone to attend!
What do you think of when you hear the name "PowerSolo"? 'Round Denmark way, the moniker apparently conjures the trash-rock psychobilly legacy of Hasil Adkins, The Cramps, and Southern Culture on the Skids. PowerSolo may be a power duo, but in this case, the prog-metal acrobatics of Rush are replaced with something they call "donkey punk."
The Tremolo Beer Gut plays old school surf & western, a genre they’ve thought up themselves, which draws inspirations from the ultra cool rough twangy guitar sound of 50’s and 60’s surf as well as the great film music of Mancini, Barry and Morricone. The songs are short and instrumental (apart from occasional shouting and carrying on).
“Where the Squares don’t fit, you’ll find OH! GUNQUIT….” Oh! Gunquit are a London-based, Rumble-Bop, Trash, Stomp, Blitz band who concoct a brew of Raw R&R, Wild Garage, and twisted Freak-a-Billy. The nucleus of the band started in 2010 after becoming neighbours and frequenting sweaty cellar dance nights around town. They formed the band around the idea of creating a blend of Primitive Surf, Garage-Punk, RocknRoll, & mixing it all up. Oh! Gunquit are named after a town in Maine, USA which has been an artists' colony since the 1800s named after the Abenaki Indians partial to the idea of all guns quitting.

The Dirty Water Club started in October 1996 in the Tufnell Park neighbourhood of north London, at a venue called The Boston. The club's name is derived from The Standells' 1966 hit 'Dirty Water' which glorifies the US city of Boston, Massachusetts.
Past performers have included The White Stripes (voted by Q Magazine as one of the top 10 gigs of all time, Mojo one of the top 30 and Kerrang one of the top 100!), The Gories, NOBUNNY, Kid Congo Powers (from the Cramps), The Fleshtones, Billy Childish, Radio Birdman, The Dirtbombs, Thee Michelle Gun Elephant, The 5.6.7.8's, The Horrors and The Brian Jonestown Massacre to name just a few. The club has also seen some original '60s performers, such as The Monks, ? and the Mysterians, Kim Fowley, Sky Saxon, GONN, Michael Davis of the MC5 and more grace its stage.
Their in-house record label, Dirty Water Records, is one of the leading garage/beat/(real) R&B labels in the world.
