Music, moves, and movies add international flair to ellenor summer fair

Steel drums, Bhangra dancers, and kids movie characters added an international flair, as ellenor, opened its gates to visitors last Saturday 4 July between 10 – 4pm for its annual family Summer Fair.

The sun shone down on striped marquees and bunting as over 500 visitors enjoyed the attractions and activities of this traditional summer fair, which included a range of stalls and games such as a coconut shy, hook-a-duck, tombola, cakes, craft stalls and face painting. With appearances from kids movie characters; The Minions, Cinderella and Peppa Pig throughout the day, and a varied mix of music and dance performances, there really was something for everyone, young and old.

Area Fundraiser Phil Dickman said: ”We really pulled out all the stops to make this ‘the’ family event of the summer, and were so excited to team up with Jugnu Bhangra, The Dance Academy, Sahela Ladies Bhangra Dancers and Steel Ambition, who brought so much energy, colour and sound to the day”

Food, in the form of a BBQ, and refreshments including Pimms were available for those who just wanted to come and sit in the beautiful surroundings of the Hospice garden with a cool drink in their hand. For the more energetic, the bouncy castle and outdoor games proved popular with kids and grownups alike.

Phil said “We were so grateful for all the support from our volunteers, local community and our sponsors – High-Tech membrane roofing. Opening our doors for this event is a way of inviting people in to say thank you, whilst raising vital funds for families who need our care. We were pleased to see so many families out enjoying the sunshine and the entertainment, as making time for families is what ellenor is all about.”

The event raised over £8,000, with all money raised going to provide care and support to seriously ill children, young people, adults and their families in the local community.
