The Annexe22 of the European Capital of Culture on Place du Brill provides a foretaste of things to come. In this space, we want to show what Esch2022 is going to be and make you feel, taste and hear what it should be like.
In the Annexe22, we will share ideas and experimentations which will be the starting point for a whole series of projects and events designed to change your everyday life in 2022.
Annexe22 is a platform – where we are going to exhibit, construct, discuss, experiment, share stories and collect ideas. The results achieved by everyone working together will help us define the European Capital of Culture programme.
We warmly invite you to come and meet us at the Pavilion and get involved.

We will be exhibiting an amazing multi-coloured model. This imaginary city has been designed by Floris Hovers as a world where play is the rule. The artist presents us with a new city entitled PLAYFUL CONNECT: a city which is organised as a gigantic playground. And given that play may come before culture this means that it’s also capable of defining it. By giving free rein to the imagination, Playful Connect evokes shapes and colours from our childhood, while at the same time offering a vision of what we could achieve today. Drawing inspiration from the industrial past of Esch and its region, Floris Hovers offers us an alternative world where we can play.
So, let’s make our towns and districts our new playgrounds!

Floris Hovers’ model has been made from salvaged materials. Here nothing has gone to waste and everything has yet to be gained: Esch2022 is an opportunity to transform our city and our region.
