"Both are fine vessels"

With ‘Esvagt Leah’ and ‘Esvagt Heidi’, the ESVAGT fleet has been equipped with two high-quality vessels.

It is atypical for ESVAGT to be expanding the fleet without having been responsible for the design and construction process with the yard.

However, with 'Esvagt Heidi' and 'Esvagt Leah', the two latest additions to the fleet and both just recently chartered, that is the case.

The vessels were built for and sailed for another shipping company before they became part of ESVAGT, but the quality is fully on par with the rest of the fleet.

"Both are fine vessels, and they have done a good job in building them," says Jesper Møhring Madsen, captain of 'Esvagt Heidi':

“From design to craftsmanship, there is quality in everything. All the joints, the painting work, the piping - it's meticulous throughout,” he says.

Hans Pauli vid Misá, who is the captain of 'Esvagt Leah', echoes the statement:

“You can tell it is a fine and well-maintained vessel, well looked after and cared for. It sits well at sea, too,” he says.

“A vessel you can count on”

Both ‘Esvagt Leah’ and ‘Esvagt Heidi’ are X-bow vessels by Ulstein design. The characteristic bow provides a stable vessel in severe weather. This is a clear plus in the North Sea, where high speed in headwinds and bad weather is often required.

Both captains and the vessels' chief engineers have been on board the ships as guests and observers for a few weeks to see how they act in operation. Hans Pauli vid Misá took part as 'Esvagt Leah' had a cargo run in bad weather – a valuable experience, he says:

"We saw what the vessel was able to do under pressure. It's a vessel you can count on and be comfortable with, and that is very nice to know,” he says.

Safety training

Both vessels will work with ERRV / PSV tasks for Total Energies. After a thorough introduction to the vessel, the captains priority now is to form a strong team with the crew and introduce a good and well-functioning everyday life in close coordination with the customer, says Jesper Møhring Madsen:

“We will be providing ERRV and PSV tasks and several other things, so there is a lot of coordination. As always, we have to train and practice our rescue operations and maintain our safety competencies to ensure, that Total Energies has certainty about the level of competence and training that they expect from ESVAGT, ”says Jesper Møhring Madsen.
