International Nurses’ Day 2020 - Shine a Light for our Nurses
Today, on International Nurses’ Day and the bicentenary of Florence Nightingale's birth, we salute all our Nurses who are working tirelessly every day to keep the nation safe, bravely working on the front line of the Covid-19 pandemic.
We also pay tribute to the thousands of former Nurses who have answered the call and selflessly returned to service to help the NHS confront Covid-19; the greatest healthcare challenge in the history of our National Health Service.
In a gesture reflecting the lamp carried by Florence Nightingale - the founder of modern nursing and a pioneer in infection control - Nursing leaders urge the public to ‘Shine a Light’ from a window tonight at 8.30pm to mark the 200th anniversary of her birth, International Nurses' Day and to recognise the heroic efforts of all our nursing professionals in tackling coronavirus.
