HSJ 100: Meeting the efficiency challenge
The HSJ 100: Meeting the efficiency challenge, a Round Table to be held on the 21st April 2015 in association with Fortrus Ltd and Hunter Healthcare.
Whichever party - or coalition of parties - is elected in May the NHS will face renewed pressure to make massive efficiency savings.
The Five Year Forward View highlights a £30bn funding gap by 2021 if real terms funding remains flat over the next five years. Efficiency gains will be a key part of reducing that to a level which politicians may consider funding - but those gains will have to be at a rate higher than we have seen recently.
This HSJ roundtable, in association with Fortrus and Hunter Healthcare, will open the following up for discussion:
*what are the areas where the NHS can still squeeze out greater efficiency, given we have realised many of the easy wins over the last five years?
*how can staff be enabled to become more efficient?
*what role will investment in technology play in this and what are the barriers to greater uptake of proven technology?
*are there lessons which can be learnt from high-performing organisations around efficiency and how can these be disseminated?
The event will be recorded and written up for publication in a future edition of HSJ but will appear after the general election.
