GTR supports launch of new podcast series on its scenic Sussex destinations

Govia Thameslink Railway (GTR), which runs Southern, Thameslink, Gatwick Express and Great Northern, has supported the launch of a new podcast series on destinations across its picturesque Sussex network.

To celebrate the seven-episode series being released today (20 March), more than 30 guests were invited to an exclusive film screening at the Capitol Horsham last week to watch ‘the Arun Valley Line: Beyond the Rails’, featuring interviews with GTR colleagues and volunteers who help keep the network running.

The podcast series and 45-minute film, created by Whistlestop Arts, takes viewers on an exciting journey from Gatwick Airport to Amberley as presenters Annalees Lim and Luna Russell aim to inspire more people to travel by train to discover new destinations.

Tracy Jarvis, Corporate Social Responsibility Manager at Govia Thameslink Railway, said: “We’re delighted to have taken part in this project, which showcases some of the fantastic destinations across our network. Travelling by train is the most sustainable form of public transport and with the start of spring, now is the perfect time to get out there and discover lesser-known gems on the rail network.”

The project was commissioned by Southeast Communities Rail Partnership (SCRP), funded by Horsham District Council and the UK Government Shared Prosperity Fund.

Rowena Tyler, SCRP Community Development Officer for the Arun Valley Line, said: “These podcasts introduce the listener to a beautiful part of the Arun Valley Line, with walks and attractions which can be easily accessed from the railway stations.

“We’re delighted with this product and if funding can be obtained, we would like to add to it, extending across the entire Arun Valley Line, as far as Bognor Regis and Bosham.”

A spokesperson from Horsham District Council said: “We are thrilled to be supporting this fantastic podcast series and film through our allocation of UK Shared Prosperity Funding. The project aligns with our objectives to support a thriving local economy and is closely linked to several of our other projects, promoting sustainable travel in and around our district whilst also showcasing our wonderful visitor attractions and experiences.

“We hope lots of visitors and residents enjoy the film and podcasts when they launch in March and that it will inspire them to explore the Arun Valley Line.”
