Govia Thameslink Railway releases outcome of internal investigation

Govia Thameslink Railway CEO Patrick Verwer comments on the conclusion of GTR’s internal investigation into the death of Victoria Station colleague Belly Mujinga:

“Belly’s story continues to move us all, and we are heartbroken by her loss. At work, she was a dedicated and valued colleague and as a member of society, she sought to help those most in need.

“This has been an incredibly difficult period for Belly’s husband and young daughter. In talking to them we learned that we should have supported them better. For this reason, a key outcome of our internal investigation is to improve the support we give to families of an employee who has passed away. Additionally, we are creating a taskforce to review our approach to employee health across the business.

“Our colleagues are doing an incredible job at an unprecedented time for the whole country and their health and wellbeing is our absolute priority. Like everyone, we are learning about the impacts of this terrible virus as more information becomes available and continue to make changes to further protect our employees when new advice comes to light.”

In carrying out its internal investigation GTR has viewed CCTV evidence, used information logged on its management systems and interviewed 10 colleagues. It is also informed by the outcome of the British Transport Police and Crown Prosecution Service investigations. The GTR report can be found here.
