The Future is Bright; the Future is Content

Mick Spain is a Commercial Director at Great Guns Marketing. This post is his take on content and its 3 essential ingredients.

Think of your content like a TV programme that you are broadcasting – why should people watch it, why should they tell their friends to view it, how will they find it in the first place, etc…

So let’s have a look at 3 essential keys around effective content:

  • Is it  easy to find? Content needs to be useful for specific audiences. It needs to be created with their wants, needs, curiosities and business pressures in mind. It needs to give the audience something; and the sooner they can benefit from that ‘something’, the better. It needs to be found in searches so needs to be friendly to the search engines for search terms and keywords likely to be used by the intended audience. Think how you found out about your favourite TV programmes; how did you find them?
  • Is it easy to engage with? Someone recently said to me that they know when they have been to a good conference, they come away with something they can go back to the office and immediately use. That is a good way to judge content; does it give the audience something they can start to use straight way? You clearly need to start from a good understanding of your target audience and create that content as a member of the audience; do not create as a content creator. Just use the audiences’ mindset.
  • Is it easy to share? It needs to be easy for the audience to pass on and maximise the number of people that the content will reach.

There’s an awful lot of content out there on the internet which means we all have a great deal of competition when it comes to getting on our audiences’ devices. It’s an exciting time in the technology revolution.
