Rock: The New Regional Train presented to the Associations of Disabled Persons and Consumers

Hitachi Rail Italy and Trenitalia have invited the associations of disabled persons and consumers to Pistoia to show them in advance the real scale mock-up of the new Rock regional train and meet with Hitachi’s and Trenitalia's designers and technicians. The mock-up of the train will be the protagonist of the road show that from next October will present it in the main Italian squares.
It has been the occasion to assess together some of the highly innovative technical features of the new train, mainly as regards safety, accessibility and comfort.

These range from the external design and the spacious interiors, bright thanks to larger windows; the location of wheelchairs spaces immediately adjacent to the boarding/exiting points to reduce the distance within the train, the doors equipped with mobile steps to compensate the horizontal gap between train and platform; the high transport capacity of luggage and bikes; the spacious access area to the upper deck and the technological passenger
information service.

Rock represents a generational jump with respect to the double deck trains presently operating in Italy, mainly from the point of view of reliability, energy saving and performances, among which an acceleration comparable to the one of a metro train.Marco Caposciutti, the Trenitalia Technical Department Director, and Maurizio Manfellotto, Hitachi Rail Italy CEO, attended the visit.
