Press release -

Local college visits ID Medical for massage marathon to support Mental Health Awareness Week

ID Medical Mental Health, a specialist sub-division of the leading Milton Keynes based healthcare recruiter ID Medical, welcomed students from Milton Keynes College’s Faculty of Creative and Service Industries to its offices on Wednesday 13th May for at-desk neck, shoulder, hand and arm massage treatments, raising £585.44 for the Mental Health Foundation during Mental Health Awareness Week (11-17th May). This fundraising total was accumulated from the massage marathon and a generous bake sale.

The Mental Health Foundation, the UK’s leading mental health research, policy and service improvement charity, chose ‘Mindfulness’ as this year’s campaign theme – an integrative, mind-body based training which helps people to change the way they think and feel about their experiences and is recommended as a treatment for people with mental health problems.

Mindfulness is something which will benefit everybody, even those not experiencing a mental health problem. With ID Medical supplying healthcare professionals to over 90% of NHS Trusts across the UK, it is important that mindfulness transpires to its entire workforce in order to deliver its premier level service. In addition to promoting mindfulness in the office, ID Medical shared its advice on being mindful with 10 essential recommendations.

Harjit Nandha, ID Medical’s Mental Health division manager shares his thoughts on the team’s fundraising efforts, “Once again ID Medical is proud to support Mental Health Awareness Week and we look forward to this campaign every year. Always striving to support our local community, we were thrilled to welcome students from MK College to join us in this year’s fundraising as we raise awareness of mental health issues.

With an expected 8% cut to NHS Mental Health funding over the next 5 years (source: BBC1 news, 5 May 2015), it is imperative we do everything within our power to raise awareness of this disadvantaged disease, as it is also reported that up to 75% of people with mental health problems get no help at all (source: Stephen Dalton, chief executive Mental Health Network, March 2015).”

Our Mental Health division is recognised within the industry, supplying to over 75% of NHS Mental Health Trusts in the UK which is why we have such a deep rooted interest in this campaign with it being a specialty so close to our ethics and daily workings, placing mental health specialists into urgent positions. With a steadily growing workforce of almost 500 talented personnel, we pledge to maintain the support of this and future campaigns for the Mental Health Foundation.”

Jenny Peach, Beauty Therapy Ambassador at MK College added, “The beauty therapy learners of Milton Keynes College are proud to support ID Medical during Mental Health Awareness Week. The massage marathon not only supports their progression and skills in the beauty industry but also highlights the importance of well-being at work.”
