Celebrate Veganuary with IKEA
Hi there,
January means Veganuary, an opportunity for us to reflect on our diet and the food we consume. Not only for vegans, it’s an occasion for even the most avid meat eaters amongst us to think about what we eat, the impact it has on our health and the wider planet, and realistic and easy ways we can be kinder to both.
With 15% more Brits eating meat-free foods over the last two years and 11% more meat eaters reducing or limiting the meat in their diets1, there are plenty of small and simple changes you can make to incorporate a more plant-based offering into your life.
Ellie Pniok, Commercial Food Leader for IKEA UK & Ireland says:
“Sustainability is integral to everything we do at IKEA. From evolving our food offering and reducing our impact on the planet, to innovating the materials we use in our products and providing easy and affordable ways to reduce waste. We want to inspire change and enable the many to make more sustainable choices every day.”
“Veganuary is a wonderful opportunity for us to do so, highlighting both the environmental impact of making meat-free switches and the easy and affordable changes you can make to do so. Plant-based foods need less resources, less water and less land to feed just as many. By cutting out meat and dairy products from your diet, you could reduce the carbon footprint from your food by up to 73%. Changing eating habits can be daunting, so taking a gradual approach by committing to one vegan day a week can make this change much easier, being kinder to both yourself and the planet.”

“Swapping or reducing meat and fish needn’t mean missing out on wholesome and comforting food. Our sustainable plant-based alternative to our iconic meatball, the HUVUDROLL plant ball, has the same delicious taste, texture and quality with just 4% of the climate footprint. Made from yellow pea protein, oats, potatoes, onion and apple, it has the same great juicy bite that meatball lovers, flexitarians, vegetarians and vegans can all enjoy.”
“Its sibling, the HUVUDROLL vegetable ball, is also scrumptious, with both being great to have in wraps, salads or with roasted vegetables. They can be easily prepared from frozen in minutes – in the oven, microwave or on the stove – and are just as tasty warm as they are cold.”
“For those looking for something a little different, the SJÖRAPPORT seaweed pearls are a wonderful addition to cold eggs or canapés, as a decoration for salads or sandwiches or as an ingredient in dips or hot sauces.”
“Green eating doesn’t just stop with where our produce is sourced from; it’s also important to reduce our food waste. The IKEA 365+ range makes it incredibly easy to keep leftovers fresher for longer. It’s also a great way to prepare your meals in advance, saving time and money. The glass IKEA 365+ food container’s tight-fitting lid preserves aromas and flavours and is made from sustainable, natural bamboo that also creates a warm look. The container itself is made of oven-safe glass, doubling up as an oven/serving dish, whilst the lid can be used as a coaster withstanding temperatures up to 100°C.”

“Sometimes it can be tempting to grab a pre-made lunch when you’ve nipped out to the shop, but to make it easier to make more sustainable food choices by avoiding disposable packaging, the IKEA 365+ lunch box is your trusty companion. It’s perfect for preparing your lunches in advance, meaning you can use your well-earned lunch break to get some much-needed fresh air, rather than spending time making food. It has three removable inserts so that you can separate your main course from your salad and sauce, with its snap-and-lock leak-proof lid preventing spills and creating an aroma-tight seal.”
