Technical visits announced for 7th International Railway Summit
Delegates attending the 7th International Railway Summit will visit key rail facilities in the host city of Frankfurt on the afternoon of Wednesday 20 February 2019, learning about the city’s transport infrastructure, the maintenance of high-speed trains, and engaging with the prototypes and ideas that could transform the sector.
Frankfurt’s main transport operator, Verkehrsgesellschaft Frankfurtam Main mbH (VGF), which runs services on 9 underground and 10 tram lines, will take delegates on a tram infrastructure tour, including major transport hub Konstablerwache station. VGF Managing Director and Chief Technology Officer Michael Rüffer will lead the tour, which begins at VGF’s headquarters, highlighting innovations and modernisations made in recent years.
Delegates will also have the chance to explore the ICE-Werk depot in Frankfurt-Griesheim, where Germany’s high-speed ICE (InterCity Express) trains are maintained in pristine condition, revised, and upgraded. DB Fahrzeuginstandhaltung (DB Maintenance), a subsidiary of Deutsche Bahn, Germany’s national railway company, will guide attendees through the most significant processes and advances of this most modern of complexes, which covers over 100,000m2.
Digitalisation represents the core theme of the 3-day summit’s conference programme, and delegates will be able to see and test for themselves the exciting new technologies being developed by DB Systel, Deutsche Bahn’s digital partner. At the Skydeck Think Tank atop the Silver Tower in Central Frankfurt, DB Systel will demonstrate, through a guided tour and interactive workshops, transformative products and visions in the fields of virtual and augmented reality, artificial intelligence, automation, and blockchain.
Registration for the technical visits will open shortly.
