UIC special partner for 7th International Railway Summit
The 7th International Railway Summit will be hosted in association with the International Union of Railways (UIC), it has been announced. The summit, a comprehensive networking event for the railway sector, is organised by IRITS Events and will take place in Frankfurt, Germany on 20-22 February 2019.
UIC is the worldwide professional association which represents 200-member organisations in 100 countries, encompassing 1 million km of rail track. The association helps members meet sustainable development and mobility challenges, creates standards and common solutions, and proposes new ways to improve technical performance, competitiveness and cost efficiency. UIC develops and facilitates cooperation and the sharing of best practices among members.
The 7th International Railway Summit will feature a full 2-day conference programme with speeches delivered by sector leaders and experts, as well as concurrent bespoke one-to-one consultation meetings between buyer and expert companies.
The conference programme is organised under the umbrella theme ‘How do we achieve an efficient railway system in the digital era?’.
UIC’s Director General, Jean-Pierre Loubinoux will deliver a keynote speech as part of a session entitled ‘Power in the customer’s hands: How can digital remove barriers to cross-border travel’, plotting the course for how new technologies can bring people, businesses and nations closer together.
Francis Bedel, Chief Digital Officer of UIC, will act as conference chairman, introducing and summarising two days of ideas, agreements, and controversies. Jean-Michel Evanghelou, UIC’s Head of Telecom and Signalling, will moderate ‘5G and FRMCS: The post GSM-R strategy for Railways’, discussing the future technologies and standards for rail communications, where UIC is playing a leading role.
Jean-Pierre Loubinoux remarked: “In a world changing its traditional paradigms and accelerating its pace of innovation, the digital input into our railway sector must be taken as an opportunity for more productivity, more interoperability and more services for our customers.”
