London Luton Airport predicts record Easter weekend

London Luton Airport (LLA) is anticipating a record-breaking Easter weekend with 161,000 passengers expected to travel through the airport between Good Friday and Easter Monday. This is a 17.5% increase on the same period in 2015 when 137,000 passengers travelled through the airport.

The increase is partly down to the introduction of new routes. This month alone will see the launch of six new routes from the airport:

• Vueling will launch its first services from LLA to Amsterdam and Barcelona

• Wizz Air will introduce routes to two new destinations in Lithuania: Kaunas and Palanga

• easyJet will now offer flights between LLA and Jersey

• Blue Air will begin operating four flights a week to Turin, Italy

To meet demand, LLA is currently undergoing a £110m development project to increase annual capacity by 50% from 12 to 18 million passengers by 2020.

The transformation will deliver a complete redesign of the terminal to create a friendly and efficient passenger experience. Exciting new shopping and dining options, expanded security search, baggage reclaim and immigration facilities and major upgrades to transport links are just some of the improvements currently being delivered.

LLA suggests the following travel tips for stress-free Easter travel:

1. If you are travelling to the airport by car, leave in good time and pre-book your parking space

2. Consider public transport

There are several public transport options including train services around the clock. Trains from central London to Luton Airport Parkway can take as little as 20 minutes. There are also many bus routes with 400 services arriving and departing each day.

3. Check in online with your airline

Online check-in, where available, can save you time and money and is usually available up to 24 hours ahead of the flight’s scheduled departure time.

4. Don’t forget your travel documents

You’ll need your passport or ID and you’ll need to make sure it doesn’t expire any time soon. If it does, check that it will still be valid for the destination which you’re travelling to. Don’t forget, children under the age of 12 also need a children’s ID or passport. . Check the requirements with your airline.

5. Prepare your hand baggage for security checks

Wherever possible pack liquids in your hold baggage as there are restrictions on the amount you can take in your hand baggage.
