Records tumble and passenger numbers soar at London Luton Airport

Record passenger numbers for January with an increase of 11.3% on 2014. New transatlantic flights confirmed

London Luton Airport (LLA) experienced an 11.3% uplift in passenger numbers during January 2015 compared to January 2014. This comes after the Airport welcomed 10.5 million passengers in 2014; an 8.3% annual increase and the highest in the Airport’s 76 year history.

The increase can be attributed to the strength of London as a destination, the Airport’s ease of access and rapidly expanding route network, which saw 15 new destinations added in 2014 and 11 new routes already confirmed for 2015.

One of those new routes is the all-business class service to New York with La Compagnie which will start flying on the 24th April 2015. The French carrier is currently offering the cheapest transatlantic business class fares from London, further cementing LLA’s reputation for offering great value air services, which has been important to the Airport’s growth.

Growing demand for the Airport will be met by a £100million transformation which starts this spring and will increase annual capacity from 12 million to 18 million passengers bringing about a raft of improvements, including:

A major redesign of the terminal to create a quick, efficient, friendly and convenient passenger experience.

Major improvements to transport links, including better road access to the M1, new car parking facilities, a remodelled bus and coach interchange and improved rail links.

Exciting new shopping and eating options and the development of a new world-class executive lounge.
