​Spotlight on… The Technology and Innovation Award

With the London Sport Awards 2020 supported by the City of London Corporation now just weeks away, we’re focusing in on each Award Category to give you the inside track on the Awards and who’s in the race to take home one of the coveted London Sport Awards trophies on Friday 6 March.

Today, we’re taking a look at the Technology and Innovation Award.

Who is in the running?

The Technology and Innovation Award recognises creative new thinking, innovative ideas, and the use of technology that supports people to live more physically active lives.

At this year’s Awards, the Technology and Innovation Award will celebrate those groups and individuals who have brought new technology and innovative thinking to the world of physical activity and sport to help get more people active.

After an intensive debate at January’s Judging Panel, here’s who made the final shortlist.

Good Boost

Good Boost seek to improve musculoskeletal (MSK) health services in local communities by supporting people with MSK conditions to be physically active

Using a combination of AI software and waterproof tablet computers, Good Boost provide personalised physical activity programmes in public swimming pools to help users overcome pain barriers and improve physical function and quality of life.

Good Boost have demonstrated that on average, users reduce pain by 58%, improve physical function by 50% and that 57% of users report meaningful improvements to their overall quality of life over a period of 4-6 weeks of participation.

With aims to be active in 80-100 pools across the country by the end of 2020, Good Boost are seeking to create a truly national, tailored and accessible exercise service for people living with MSK conditions.

RunFriendly

Listed in Men’s Health magazine’s ’27 apps to change your life in 2020’, RunFriendly has been called the Airbnb of showers for runners and cyclists; opening up services and amenities to support more sustainable active travel across the capital.

Having developed partnerships with a range of stakeholders including TfL, Go-Ahead, Nvidia and MyTag, RunFriendly is working to support thousands more healthy, active journeys to take place in London.

Street Tag

Returning finalists from 2019, Street Tag is a gamified healthy lifestyle app with a mission of getting everyone, everywhere to be physically active.

Their aim is to create a world where nobody dies of diseases that could be prevented or managed through physical activity, and where physical activity works to enrich families’ health.

Since its launch in 2018, Street Tag has helped 3,000 families achieve more than 350,000 physical activity miles, and scan more than 800,000 virtual tags in communities right across the capital.

The Technology and Innovation Award has seen some incredible winners take home the trophy in previous years, including:
