Sport England and BBC Radio London show their backing for grassroots physical activity and sport with London Sport Awards support

London Sport is thrilled to announce that Sport England and BBC Radio London will demonstrate their backing for community sport and physical activity in the capital through the London Sport Awards.

Both organisations will return as Award category sponsors for the London Sport Awards, in association with City of London Corporation, having previously supported the 2019 event at Twickenham Stadium.

Sport England will be a category sponsor of The Uniting London Award where Rathbone Amateur Boxing Club, MovementWorks and London & SE Regional Netball Association with the Met Police have been named as shortlisted nominees.

Inspirational Young Person of the Year will be supported by category sponsor BBC Radio London for 2021 with one of Kieran Matthews, Charlie Hyman, or Elvire Mavusi Matu lifting the trophy when the winner is announced on 6 December at Guildhall.

The London Sport Awards, in association with City of London Corporation, is the biggest celebration of grassroots physical activity and sport in the capital.

City of London Corporation are title sponsors for the second year running with Chipotle, Gympass, and GameDay having already been announced as category sponsors for 2021.

The countdown to the Awards night is well and truly on with the winners being announced live to more than 300 guests at the Guildhall in central London at the beginning of December.

Jennie Rivett, London Sport’s Business Development Manager, said:

We’re delighted to have Sport England and BBC Radio London involved and showing their support for grassroots physical activity and sport and the fantastic London Sport Awards.

“BBC Radio London have provided incredible support for the Awards in recent years, showcasing the inspirational efforts of many previous winners on air.

“We look forward to working with them, and Sport England, a key strategic partner who continue to support our ambitious mission, throughout this year’s Awards at the Guildhall.

Sara Oliver, Editor at BBC Radio London, said:

We are delighted to be involved with the London Sport Awards.

"Sport is central to our programming at BBC Radio London and it’s a real privilege to be able to celebrate the incredible stories of people who Make A Difference in community sport across the city.”

Mike Diaper, Executive Director of Tackling Inactivity for Sport England, said:

“We are proud to support these awards in recognition of the important work being done in London to connect communities through sport and activity.

“Our recent Active Lives survey shows that existing inequalities have been widened - with some group’s activity levels hit much harder by the pandemic than others. The organisations and individuals being honoured on Awards night, along with countless others, are critical to the recovery of our communities and the health and wellbeing of our nation’s capital.”
