Council honours the Emergency Services on 999 Day

Mid and East Antrim Borough Council has proudly honoured the commitment and dedication of the selfless men and women of the NHS and emergency services at this year’s 999 Day flag raising ceremony.

At the Full Council meeting on the 7 September 2020, Council agreed to raise the Emergency Services Flag across its Civic buildings on the ninth day of the ninth month at 9 am.

To mark the occasion, the Mayor of Mid and East Antrim Borough, Councillor Peter Johnston was joined, by the Deputy Lieutenant of County Antrim, Mr James Perry MBE and representatives from the Emergency Services including the PSNI, NIFRS and RNLI at a special reception and flag raising ceremony held at The Braid Town Hall, Ballymena.

The Mayor said: “I am honoured to represent Mid and East Antrim Borough as we proudly mark the vital role of our Emergency Services who work so tirelessly for us all.

“Their selfless dedication has been brought to the fore in recent months and we are honoured to join the nation as we recognise our heroes of the NHS and emergency services.

“However, it is important to remember that these people and services kept us safe before the COVID-19 pandemic and will continue to do when it subsides. We are indebted to them and thank them for keeping us all safe and helping us to protect the most vulnerable in our communities.

“Over two million people work in our national emergency services and many have lost their lives in the course of their duties. As Mayor of Mid and East Antrim Borough I would encourage everyone to show your support on 999 Day and pay tribute to these heroic men and women”
