Press release -

Household Recycling Centre appointment system being trialled at Carrickfergus site

At Mid & East Antrim Borough Council, we are continually monitoring how we provide waste services across the borough during the current Covid-19 pandemic.

Since the reopening of our Household Recycling Centres (HRCs) over the last number of weeks, we have noticed an increase in users at key times at some sites.

This has been highlighted at our Sullatober site in Carrickfergus where the laneway to the recycling centre is also shared with a number of businesses.

At peak times, staff have noted issues with vehicles accessing both the site and surrounding businesses and we want to work with those businesses to try and ease the traffic flow issues.

Therefore Mid & East Antrim Borough Council are introducing an appointment based system for the Sullatober HRC, on a trial basis, starting from Wednesday 17 June when access will be by appointment only.

It is hoped this will help reduce the waiting time for householders to recycle and dispose of waste at the site.

Bookings can be made from Monday 15 June by calling our Waste Helpdesk on Tel: 0300 124 5000 (option 0).

Sullatober HRC is open Monday – Saturday from 9am to 5pm.

Our phone lines are open Monday – Friday from 9am to 5pm where residents will be provided with an appointment date and time during the call. Residents will need to provide their vehicle registration to book an appointment and photographic ID will be required to access the site.

Council will continue to work the local businesses to find a longer term solution for our citizens and business customers.

We thank people for their patience and continued cooperation.
