ISPS HANDA putts Mid and East Antrim on the map

Businesses across Mid and East Antrim are welcoming sporting fans from around the world as one of the highlight events on the European Challenge Tour gets underway at Galgorm Spa & Golf Resort and Massereene Golf Club.

The ISPS HANDA World Invitational presented by Modest! Golf has 300 male and female golfers, from around the world, competing alongside each other at the same venues for equal prize money with thousands of golfing fans and international visitors descending upon Mid and East Antrim for an exciting five days of golf.

Chairman of Councils Borough Growth Committee, Councillor Gregg McKeen said: “This event offers a welcome boost across the borough with hospitality providers, retailers and traders throughout Mid and East Antrim benefiting from the huge tourism drive, with visitors staying, visiting and enjoying the borough’s attractions.

“The global media coverage will also help put us on the map as a tourist destination, which allows us to market our fantastic parkland courses to a global audience.

“We have the Gobbins in Islandmagee and Carrickfergus Castle for visitors to explore with the presidential homesteads of Andrew Jackson Cottage and Arthur Cottage also open to the public. We also have a number of award winning marinas across the borough with over 100 parks for people to enjoy during their visit.

“I would like to wish the organisers and all the players well in what can only be described as one of the most exciting events in the sporting calendar.”

Mid and East Antrim Borough Council is a key sponsor of the ISPS HANDA World Invitational.
