Larne gets ready to pARTy as Arts Festival gets underway

Larne is getting ready for a series of events showcasing local creative flair, including music and performance across the town and the famous annual carnival parade.

Local schoolchildren have been brightening the streets with specially designed lamppost banners for the festival, which promises fun for all the family and runs from 8-26 June, with a variety of fun-filled performances and events in the town.

The action-packed “A Work of Art” themed festival is part funded by the Executive Office’s Together Building United Community Strategy.

Larne’s traders are also getting involved by creating special themed window displays and special promotions.

Mayor of Mid and East Antrim, Maureen Morrow said: “From the carnival to Arts in the Park, there really is something for everyone in the family to enjoy and it will truly be a great weekend in Larne. We have a range of fantastic independent retailers with special offers, and lots of good food.

“Council is committed to supporting art of all forms for our citizens and we’re hoping there will be a great turnout from people right across the borough and beyond. I would like to thank Executive Office’s Together Building United Community Strategy for their funding contribution to this festival.”

The festivities kick off at 1pm on Saturday 8 June with entertainment at Broadway. At 3pm, dancers, vintage cars, music and artists will wind their way from Larne Market Yard, Circular Road, Quay Street and Main Street as part of the carnival parade.

On Sunday 9 June, the free Arts in The Park will be another highlight with local artists showcasing their work with ‘come and try it’ sessions, demonstrations of arts and crafts from around the world, family fun entertainment, live music and guided tours on the park’s history from Larne Renovation Generation.

The event will feature live music by Larne Music Yard, The Sandrunners, The Promise and Lisa Dawson.

There are a number of free and paid car parking spaces around Larne town centre all within easy reach of the parade route.
