Let’s build on golf legacy, says Mayor

In an extraordinary year of golf, the ISPS HANDA World Invitational presented by Modest! Golf was the perfect opportunity for the sporting public to witness more from some of the best players from the men and women games.

This tournament is one of the most successful and best-attended events on the European Challenge Tour and it has been held on two fantastic local courses - the Galgorm Castle Golf Club and Massereene Golf Club.

Commenting on its success, the Mayor of Mid and East Antrim Borough Council, Councillor, Maureen Morrow said: “Thousands of spectators and visitors from around the world have descended upon our Borough for this golf tournament with hospitality providers, retailers and traders throughout Mid and East Antrim all benefiting from the huge tourism drive.

“The staging of such a prestigious event has been incredible for the local economy and it has really put us on the map as a top class tourist destination.

“We have so much to offer visitors. From our breathe taking coastal drives and rich cultural history to our fantastic selection of golf courses, I believe we are best placed to host and build upon such a legendary tournament and I look forward to it returning next year.

“I would like to congratulate local girl, Stephanie Meadow on her win with Jack Senior winning the men’s title. I would also like to commend the organisers, our partner sponsors and to our celebrities for their sustained efforts in bringing this event together and for their continued belief in Mid and East Antrim as a top-class location for international events.
