Mayor proud to support retailers with #ShopSafe message

The Mayor of Mid and East Antrim, Councillor Peter Johnston, has welcomed the recent news of dates indicating the easing of some restrictions in our town centres.

The message from the Mayor is that safety is still paramount for shoppers and retailers alike, with Mid and East Antrim Borough Council’s Town Centre team continuing their support for businesses by distributing locally branded face coverings to businesses.

The face coverings carry distinct branding for each of our three main shopping towns of Ballymena, Carrickfergus and Larne, and are part of the Council’s ongoing #ShopSafe #SupportLocal marketing campaign.

Last year, Mid and East Antrim Borough Council led the way with the innovative COVID Confidence Scheme, which was designed to support businesses to roll out enhanced safety and hygiene measures to protect the health of our community, and distributed hundreds of Retail Safety kits to local traders when the first lockdown restrictions were relaxed in June 2020. In addition, as part of Council’s current re-opening plans, public sanitizer stations will be installed in our town centres to help keep shoppers safe.

Mayor Johnston said he was delighted to support the latest work to help the borough’s business community.

“These face coverings have been designed to promote our town centres in Mid and East Antrim, and we want to get the message out that safety remains our top priority to protect shoppers and staff.

“Council’s Town Centre team will be distributing the face coverings to local businesses who wish to avail of them.”
