North Channel Partnership Action Plan given green light by councillors
Elected Members at this month’s meeting of Mid and East Antrim Borough Council have agreed to take the next steps towards a shared set of objectives agreed by the North Channel Partnership.
The NCP is a collaboration between Mid and East Antrim Borough Council and Dumfries and Galloway Council, and is focused on developing a number of common interests, including tourism, ports and infrastructure.
Mid and East Antrim Borough Council has appointed three Elected Members to participate in the North Channel Partnership, namely Councillors Maureen Morrow, Gregg McKeen and Danny Donnelly.
At this month’s meeting of Full Council, Elected Members were given an update on the work of the partnership, which met virtually on February 10.
Councillors also agreed that those involved with the partnership should move ahead with the group’s revised Action Plan, which focuses on the key themes of Ports and Infrastructure, Digital, Food and Drink, Tourism Offering, Collaborative Events and Energy.
The Action Plan outlines the scope for collaboration between both councils to leverage funding for developing the key sea and road links between Larne and Cairnryan, as well as capitalising on opportunities to promote the local food and drink, clean energy and digital sectors.
Mayor of Mid and East Antrim, Councillor Peter Johnston, praised the work of the North Channel Partnership to date.
“I want to thank our Elected Members and our Scottish colleagues for their continued co-operation and commitment to building economic bridges with Mid and East Antrim, and indeed, with Northern Ireland as a whole.
“Those linkages are more crucial than ever before as we all work to rebuild our economy, in key sectors such as Tourism and Hospitality, Digital and Renewables, as we recover from the Covid-19 emergency.
“I welcome the work by the North Channel Partnership to agree an Action Plan, which will form the pathway to progressing our shared objectives.”
