Investigation underway following fire in grounds of Woolton Hall last night

Merseyside Police is working alongside investigators from Mersey Fire and Rescue Service following a fire in the grounds of Woolton Hall last night.

We were called at 6.20pm last night, Thursday 30th May following reports of the fire in old wooden sheds on the site on Speke Road in Woolton.

A number of road closures were in put in place last night due to the volume of smoke. The roads have since reopened.

Officers remain at the scene today and enquiries are being carried out to establish the cause of the fire which as this stage is being treated as suspected malicious ignition.

Detective Inspector Phil Mahon said: “I would appeal to anyone who was in the vicinity of Speke Road who saw anything or anyone acting suspiciously to contact us.

“I would also ask if anyone was driving past Woolton Hall who may have captured something on their dash cam to get in touch as they may have information which is vital to our investigation.”
