Investigation underway following fire outside house in Huyton

We are investigating following a fire outside a property in Huyton on Sunday 20^th January.

We were contacted by Mersey Fire and Rescue Service at 7.45am to reports a caravan and a Land Rover Freelander were on fire on the driveway of a house on Alder Avenue. Fire damage was also caused to the front of property.

The occupant of the house, a man in his 70s, was able to escape and was treated for minor smoke inhalation.

The incident is being treated as suspected malicious ignition.

House-to-house, CCTV and and forensic enquiries have been carried out in the local area and enquiries remain ongoing.

Detective Inspector Steve Ball said: “I would appeal to anyone who was in the vicinity of Alder Avenue yesterday morning or saw anyone or anything suspicious to contact us as they may have information which is vital to our investigation.”
