Man, 50, jailed for robbery at shop on County Road, Walton

We have today, Tuesday 20th August, welcomed the sentencing of a 50 year-old man for robbery.

We were called to Blooming Marvellous flower shop on County Road, Walton, on Wednesday 10th April this year following reports that a man had entered the shop, claiming to have a knife, and demanded cash.

The man then opened the till and made off with money. No knife was seen during the incident and no-one was hurt but the shop assistant was left shaken by their ordeal.

An investigation was launched and as a result of forensic investigations Paul Murphy, of no fixed abode, was identified as the male responsible.

Murphy, who was also wanted on recall to prison, pleaded guilty when he appeared at Liverpool Crown Court yesterday and was jailed for four years.

Detective Inspector Paul Nilsen said: “We take all business robberies extremely seriously – they are not victimless crimes, they often involve people who are just trying to do their job becoming victims of traumatic and sometimes violent incidents.

“We regularly work with partners to provide advice on practices and measures business owners can introduce to make their businesses more secure, and engage in high visibility patrols in areas with high footfall to reassure businesses and shoppers alike.”
