Man charged with theft offences following incidents in Birkenhead

We have arrested and charged a Tranmere man with theft offences following recent incidents in Birkenhead.

At around 5pm on Tuesday 13 August, a man entered JD Sports in Grange Road and removed a top from a display, making no attempt to pay.

At 10.20pm on Monday 19 August, a man in his 60s withdrew money from an ATM on Argyle Street. As he was walking away, a man ran past and snatched his wallet containing the cash.

Following CCTV enquiries, a 46-year-old man was detained at his home address and arrested.

Robert Plant has now been charged with theft from a shop; and theft from a person. He has been kept in custody to appear this morning at Wirral Magistrates Court.

Detective Chief Inspector Robbie Moss said: "We continue to work closely with all local businesses and the community to ensure that those who look to target businesses and their customers are identified and put before the courts.

"If you witness such any such incident, come forward and share any information via your local social media pages @WirralPolice, call 999 if a crime is in progress, or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111. We are determined to keep Birkenhead as a safe place to live, work and visit."
