We are appealing for information following a robbery in West Kirby today, Wednesday, 15 May.

It was reported that at around 2.50pm, a woman was assaulted by a man as she made her way to Ashton Park, resulting in the pram she was pushing, with a child in, crashing to the floor.

The woman was punched in the head and her handbag was taken.

The offender is described as white, of slim build with stubble on his face, he was wearing sports shorts and a blue t-shirt. He left the scene going in the direction of the play area of the park and towards Wirral Way and Caldy.

Chief Inspector Peter Clark said: “This was a particularly nasty attack involving a woman being hit on the head, causing her to fall while she was pushing her baby in a pram. The woman was walking along a busy road just outside the park on a beautiful sunny day and there would have been lots of witnesses around who we would ask to come forward. She made her way to Grange Road to alert officers.

“Luckily the woman and her baby did not suffer any injuries, although understandably, the victim was extremely distressed and shaken by the incident.

“This was a shocking attack and it is hard to believe that anyone could do this to a woman with a child in broad daylight. Fortunately incidents like this are rare and we are doing everything we can to locate the offender."

Enquiries are at an early stage and officers are examining CCTV from the area and speaking with witnesses to establish the full circumstances.

Officers would urge anyone who witnessed this incident or who has any information, including CCTV or dashcam footage, to contact @MerPolCC, 101 quoting ref 572 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
