Hopeman juniors heading to Holyrood for Euroquiz finals

A team of four Hopeman Primary pupils won the Moray heats of the Scottish European Educational Trust Euroquiz this week.

Eight Moray primary schools took part in the competition, held at Elgin City FC on Tuesday. Hopeman pipped Portgordon at the post to win a very exciting competition.

Hopeman goes through to the finals against teams from each of the other 31 Scottish local authorities to be held in the Scottish Parliament on Monday 13 May 2019.

Acting Head Teacher, Georgina Young, said: "We are very proud of the children’s achievement.

"They dedicated a lot of their own time in school and at home to researching and increasing their knowledge of Europe. On the day they worked well together, giving themselves thinking time and making considered responses to each question. The children are amazed that they have won the Moray heat and we wish them success at the national event in Edinburgh."

Euroquiz is an annual project open to all P6 pupils across Scotland. Teams of four work together to broaden their knowledge of Europe and the wider world as part of their preparation for the quiz heats. Subjects covered include languages, history, geography, culture and European affairs.

The team members pictured are: Keenan Moyle, Matthew Davies, Phoebe Park and Lennon MacKenzie. Brodie McLeman and Anisa Park were on the team as reserves.

Staff from each school and parents attended the heats. We wish them well in what will be a very challenging quiz, if what they experienced in the Moray heats is anything to go by.

Famous for its colony of dolphins, fabulous beaches and more malt whisky distilleries than any where else in Scotland, Moray is a thriving area and a great place to live. Nestling between Aberdeenshire and the Highlands, Moray stretches from Tomintoul in the south to the shores of the Moray Firth, from Keith in the east to Brodie Castle in the west.
