Nic. Nilsen steps down

After 15 years as the managing director of Oslo Airport, Nic. Nilsen has decided to step down. Nilsen will continue to lead the airport until his replacement has been found and will continue to follow up the development of the new terminal (T2).

“This has been both a difficult and relatively easy decision. My passion for working in the aviation industry makes it difficult, especially as I feel that Oslo Airport performs an important job for the Norwegian aviation industry and for Avinor’s role in Norwegian society. My age (will turn 67 this autumn) and my 15 years in the chair make it easy, not least because I see a need for renewal. I am very happy to have the opportunity to contribute towards the completion of T2,” managing director Nic. Nilsen comments.

Nilsen started his work at the precursor of Oslo Airport in 1995, and was responsible for moving Norway’s main airport from Fornebu to Gardermoen. He has been in charge of the airport from the beginning, and has also repeatedly served as interim CEO of Avinor.

“Under the able leadership of Nic. Nilsen, Oslo Airport has developed into an international success story. Our main airport can go toe to toe with anyone as regards operational reliability, passenger trends and commercial growth. The Norwegian aviation industry and Avinor have many reasons to be grateful to Nilsen,” says Avinor CEO Dag Falk-Petersen, who is also chair of the board at Oslo Airport.

Falk-Petersen adds that he greatly appreciates Nilsen’s willingness to continue to be responsible for the T2 development and to contribute in other major Avinor development projects.

“Nilsen’s experience and expertise are unique, and he has been an important contributor during my time as CEO of Avinor. Although he will resign as head of Oslo Airport, he will remain a valued contributor for the further development of the Avinor Group in the coming years,” says Falk-Petersen.

Falk-Petersen states that the position as managing director of Oslo Airport will be announced this autumn, and that an external recruitment firm will be hired to assist with the process. The next managing director will probably be in place by the end of the first half of 2014.
