PA Group not to be confused with PA Realisations in Marks & Spencer court case…

The following story has been brought to the attention of PA Group and questions of affiliation to this case (namely to PA Realisations) have been raised.

PA Group Director, Chris Miller- Hanna, has commented on these questions saying “This situation is extremely unfortunate for Marks & Spencer and the associated companies, I can conform that PA Group are not and never have been affiliated in any way to the accused PA Realisations. PA Group work closely with the HSE and follow the regulations carefully to ensure that all its clients and staff are working in a safe environment at all times.”

Retail giant Marks & Spencer has faced a court case following the accusation that the company has put their workers and customers at risk from asbestos exposure. These accusations follow their recent store refurbishments in Bournemouth andReading.

Marks & Spencer, along with several companies involved in the refurbishment, have been ordered to pay significant damages.

The Southern Head of Operations for the Heath and Safety Executive, Richard Boland, has commented on the case;

“This outcome should act as a wake up call that any refurbishment programmes involving asbestos-containing materials must be properly resourced, both in terms of time and money - no matter what,” adding “Large retailers and other organisations who carry out major refurbishment works must give contractors enough time and space within the store to carry out the works safely. Where this is not done, and construction workers and the public are put at risk, HSE will not hesitate in taking robust enforcement action.”

The ruling shows just how seriously asbestos in the workplace should be taken. The health and safety of each individual that enters the premises must be taken into consideration at every turn.
