TV’s Back!

With the summer now behind us, it’s time to embrace autumn. But alas, all is not bad. Yes the long evenings and summer sunshine are hibernating until next year but this time of year sees the return of warm cosy nights and the return of the great TV shows that will keep us captivated over the next few months! We’ve seen the return of the X Factor and much-loved Strictly Come Dancing; not to mention the new football season which is well underway. With such glitz and glamour and fast-paced action to enjoy, you’ll need a TV to live up to the expectations so read the following tips to make sure you’re ready:

For football fans, your TV has to handle fast-moving action to ensure you avoid judder and enjoy smooth and fluid footage. You’ll want to feel like you’re at the game, and experience every fast-moving tackle in clear motion quality. With so many matches to watch, it’s definitely worth getting your TV right from the beginning of the season, starting with colour.

If you have a replica shirt of one of the teams playing – use it to try and match the colours:

  • Too bright – you should reduce the ‘Colour’ values in the settings menu
  • Too pale – increase the ‘Colour’ settings until you’re happy.

Depending on the size and resolution of your TV, where you sit can make a big difference to your viewing experience. TVs with a higher resolution allow you to sit closer to the screen without being able to distinguish between individual pixels or suffering from image deterioration. Use the following rules to bag the best seat;

  • HD TV = 3 x times the display height (e.g. min 2.4m for a 65” TV)
  • Ultra HD 4K = 0.75 x times the display height (e.g. min. 60cm for a 65” TV)

Audio performance is just as important – for listening to your favourite X Factor audition or to immerse yourself in the roar of football fans as your team scores that winning goal. External sound systems can be phenomenal, but don’t forget to maximize your TVs own audio to enjoy superb sound with ease. For example, some TVs have a special audio setting specially calibrated for sports, such as a ‘Stadium’ setting for a true stadium atmosphere.

Not forgetting the community aspects of enjoying TV. Many people enjoying inviting their friends round and watching X Factor and Strictly Come Dancing together. Curved screens are perfect for this as you can enjoy enhanced field of view which is particularly useful when there are lots of people in the room.
