Press release -

Fibre optic converters and copper repeaters with DNV approval

The fibre optic converters and copper repeaters of the PSI and PSM product ranges now have DNV approval. Therefore, these products can also be used in the maritime sector, such as in shipbuilding or offshore facilities. The products offer a consistent system for all serial communication interfaces and bus systems such as Profibus, Interbus, CANopen, DeviceNet, ControlNet, Modbus, RS-232, RS-422, and RS-485.

Through its modular design, the active repeater system allows for individual branches in branch, line, star, and tree structures. The advantages come from shorter segment lengths with significantly increased transmission speeds and potential segmentation in isolation for the wiring of the entire fieldbus.

Fibre optic technology is appropriate especially for applications with very strict availability requirements. Some of the biggest advantages in the maritime sector are insensitivity to electromagnetic interference and automatic galvanic isolation. Therefore costly surge protection, shielding and equipotential bonding measures are no longer necessary.
