Abilia launches GEWA Connect 2.0

GEWA Connect helps people with physical disabilities become more independent and feel safe in their home environment. GEWA Connect 2.0 is the latest addition to the environmental control range from Abilia, enabling people to control both the physical and virtual world. GEWA Connect uses switches to remotely control appliances in homes and enables users with physical disabilities to utilise apps in smartphones or tablets.

With GEWA Connect 2.0 we introduce several improved features that will make it an even more efficient assistive tool.

One of the new features is that it can control appliances using both infrared and radio signals. The remote control app is easy to use and lets you operate your TV, turn on and off the lights, open windows and doors or z-wave units such as Andromeda Socket. You select what suits best for each application.

Another feature is the Alert function to keep the user safe. The built-in alert function enables the user to call for help at any time when assistance is needed. By pressing a switch for 8 seconds an alert signal is sent to a predefined receiver, it could be a carer or relative. The signal can be sent via Infrared, GEWA Radio or the relay output. The function is performed in the hardware, which means that if the app for any reason is unavailable, the alert can still be sent.

Simple and safe management is also important. Thanks to myAbilia webservice, all settings are stored in a safe place. This means that if the phone or tablet becomes damaged or lost the configuration and settings are easily downloaded to a new phone or tablet.

How does GEWA Connect work?

The heart of the system is the Abilia Multibox that is connected to a device, a smartphone or tablet, via Bluetooth. The GEWA Connect app is installed on the device and acts as an extra human interface that receives commands from the switches attached to the Multibox. Remote commands are also sent from the app to the powerful IR and GEWA Radio transmitter on the Multibox to control your environment.

The app has an intuitive Environmental Control function that lets you control your home. It is easy to create different pages with remote commands, where a page can be a room, a device or anything else where you want to group remote commands together. Predefined sequences of commands and repetitions can be sent with one click.

The system is operated by button switches, sip and puff controls or any type of switches that suits your needs.
