Malta launches Sandbox for DLT and Virtual Currencies

The Malta Gaming Authority (MGA) launched its own sandbox specifically for Distributed Ledger Technologies as well as Virtual Currencies at the Delta Summit in Malta, Malta's official blockchain and digital event. As from 1st January until October 2019, individuals will be able to benefit from a ‘test and learn’ with the hope of bringing about further innovation within the relationship of iGaming and Blockchain, being able to duly assess its risks and opportunities.

The Malta Gaming Authority

This initiative follows a Consultation Paper published earlier on in 2018 on the development of a Sandbox Environment for Distributed Ledger Technologies and Virtual Currencies. By having key experts provide their feedback within the field, the MGA was able to successfully create an environment which strikes a balance between providing a strong legal framework for risk management, whilst nonetheless ensuring innovation is not hindered.

Malta’s Gaming Future

Malta has been presenting itself as a leader within various industries, including iGaming and Blockchain. By creating an environment in which both of these rapidly-evolving industries could flourish, Malta is fostering innovation.
