CHOCOLATE DELIGHTS ON WORLD DIABETES DAY

Hayling Island based Diabetes Research & Wellness Foundation (DRWF) is being supported by local café and specialist chocolate shop The Chocolate Lounge to mark annual World Diabetes Day on Saturday 14th November. The Chocolate Lounge on Copnor Road in Portsmouth will be supporting the charity by hosting a £5 coffee and cake morning from 9am to 12pm. The Chocolate Lounge will donate £2.50 to support the work of DRWF.

Owner of The Chocolate Lounge and Chocolatier at Chocablock Ltd Mick Collins explained:

“We are delighted to be able to support local charities with our coffee and cake coffee mornings and we will be preparing special sugar free hand made chocolates for the day. All our chocolates are made with a low fat cream alternative and no added sugar, we can also make dairy free chocolates. We try to help people with dietary requirements whenever possible and it’s good to be able to support people living with diabetes, the work of the charity and raise awareness of World Diabetes day.”

Mick has booked local musician Michelle Lewis to play guitar as entertainment for the guests and all the staff will be wearing red DRWF tee shirts and will have DRWF literature available in the shop.

Sarah Bone Chief Executive at DRWF commented: “The coffee and cake morning from Mick and The Chocolate Lounge is just the type of community support we are looking for. The charity supports people living with type 1 and type 2 diabetes and holds a Diabetes Wellness Day every year in June to help people to improve their understanding and good self-management.”

The Chocolate Lounge opened in 2014 years when Mick retrained as a Chocolatier following a career in the Navy and the Metropolitan Police. His passion for excellent produce and service shows in his attention to detail and a desire to support local business and charities. Mick has grown Chocablock and now supplies specialist chocolates for weddings, corporate clients and hotels.

The Diabetes Research & Wellness Foundation (DRWF) is a registered charity, established in 1998 to raise public awareness to type 1 and type 2 diabetes, associated complications, treatment, avoidance and relief and to provide support to people living with diabetes. Whilst funding diabetes research we aim to ensure that people are ‘staying well until a cure is found...’

In the past 15 years the UK has seen the number of people diagnosed with diabetes almost double, and this continues to rise rapidly. More than one in 20 of the population now lives with diabetes and it is estimated that there will be 5 million people affected by 2025.

While DRWF is an independent, autonomous charity, working for the benefit of people within the United Kingdom, internationally, Diabetes Research & Wellness Foundation exists also as a non-profit organisation in the United States of America, in France under the name "Association pour la recherche sur le diabète", and also Sweden (DWNS). We share the same goals and don’t lose sight of the bigger picture, enabling us to take advantage of our international dimension for the benefit of the charity and our beneficiaries.
