Joey (?) and the Rats new single out!

Lucy and the Rats were formed after Lucy Ellis moved to London from Melbourne, Australia (where she was part of the Spazzys, a pop punk three piece that actually saw their first 3 singles hit the ARIA Single Chart and their debut album “Aloha! Go Bananas” (2004) enter the AIR independent chart at No. 1.

She found new partners in crime in fellow London residents Joe, Manu and Mike and after two singles Lucy and the Rats released their self titled debut album in 2018 (LP on Stardumb Records and Surfin’ Ki, CD on Dirty Water Records), which received lots of praise around the world:

“This full-length debut from Lucy and the Rats is pretty much the ultimate power pop record.” – Lord Rutledge of Faster and Louder

“When you listen to Lucy and the Rats, the world is right again.” – Penelope York of Heatwave Magazine

“On their debut album, Lucy And The Rats have created a near-perfect bubblegum-garage pop record that deserves to be a true summer soundtrack.“ – Nathan Whittle of Louder Than War

On their brand new 7 inch which we’re looking at right here, Lucy and the Rats are back with two more strikes of glorious rock‘n’roll fun. Biggest difference here though is that guitarist Joe Tolosa is stepping up front taking care of the lead vocals of both songs, putting the band in a slightly punkier direction, be it still the poppier side of punk. Think The Boys, Teenage Head, Buzzcocks, or even Nikki & The Corvettes. Joe is a punk rock legend from Spain. Currently he plays with the Rats as well as snotty punk outfit Johnny Throttle. The list of bands he used to play in in the past include legendary punk bands such as Los Perros, The Sidekicks and the Australian Onyas.

The Dirty Water Club started in October 1996 in the Tufnell Park neighbourhood of north London, at a venue called The Boston. The club's name is derived from The Standells' 1966 hit 'Dirty Water' which glorifies the US city of Boston, Massachusetts.

Past performers have included The White Stripes (voted by Q Magazine as one of the top 10 gigs of all time, Mojo one of the top 30 and Kerrang one of the top 100!), The Gories, Country Teasers, Black Lips, NOBUNNY, Kid Congo Powers, The Fleshtones, Billy Childish, Radio Birdman, The Dirtbombs, Thee Michelle Gun Elephant, The 5.6.7.8's, The Horrors and The Brian Jonestown Massacre to name just a few. The club has also seen some original '60s performers, such as The Monks, ? and the Mysterians, Kim Fowley, Sky Saxon, GONN, Michael Davis of the MC5 and more grace its stage.

Their in-house record label, Dirty Water Records, is one of the leading garage/beat/(real) R&B labels in the world.
