Hövding launches partnership with leading UK bicycle retail chain

Hövding launches partnership with leading UK bicycle retail chain Cycle Republic. Hövding will be introduced in store and online ahead of this year’s Christmas trading, with further introduction into the remaining Cycle Republic stores during 2019.

- Our agreement with Cycle Republic is tactically and strategically significant. Tactically because it immediately increases visibility and availability to the consumer. Strategically, as the collaboration, together with other partners, builds the foundation on which we can create a successful launch in the UK of the next generation of Hövding, says Hövding’s CEO Fredrik Carling.

Since its inception in 2014, Cycle Republic has established itself as one of the fastest growing and leading chains in the UK for premium bikes and cycling accessories. Today, they have 21 retail stores, eight of them in London.

- Hövding’s groundbreaking design and technology is remarkable. We are delighted to be able to add such an excellent product to our range. Thorough research and testing shows that the Hövding airbag is a world class safety product which gives optimal protection regardless of whether the cyclist uses it on their daily commute or while enjoying a leisurely weekend ride, says Cycle Republic CEO Peter Kimberley

Hövding Sverige AB (publ) recently issued new shares ahead of the international launch of the next generation of Hövding. Focus for this launch will be the Swedish, Danish, German and British markets.

- Our goal for 2020 is to have a turnover of MSEK250 and a positive result. The existing UK market is a key part of this objective, and Cycle Republic is one piece of the strategic puzzle of being visible and available both online and offline, says CEO Fredrik Carling.

Hövding - Airbag for cyclists

Hövding started out in 2005 as a master’s thesis by the two founders Anna Haupt and Terese Alstin, who, at the time, were studying Industrial Design at the University of Lund.

The project resulted in the concept of an airbag helmet, which won Innovationsbron’s Ideas Grant. This kick-started the process of developing Hövding into a real product. In 2006 Hövding won the Venture Cup, after which Hövding Sweden AB was founded.

Over the years Hövding has grown from just two people with a great idea, to a NASDAQ-listed company that handle everything from development and production to marketing and sales. Today Hövding consists of a team of around 30 people, all triggered by the word impossible, and Hövding’s airbag for cyclists is available in 16 markets across Europe.

The headquarters are located in an old chocolate factory in Malmö – the sixth greatest cycling city in the world. Final assembly of Hövding is carried out in association with the Japanese Company Nihon Plast.
