London Sport wins London Healthy Workplace Award

London Sport has been recognised for its continued efforts to achieve a healthier, happier and more productive workplace at the London Healthy Workplace Awards 2019.

Businesses from across the capital with an outstanding dedication to the health and wellbeing of their staff were recognised at a special event at City Hall on Monday (18 November).

London Sport successfully satisfied the criteria for a Foundation level award with verifiers impressed with our recognition programme, training opportunities and February’s inaugural wellness week – hosted by House of Sport.

The London Healthy Workplace Award is an accreditation scheme led by the Mayor of London and supported by Public Health England. It acts as a template for good practice and recognises London employers which invest in their employees’ health and wellbeing.

The award helps organisations address some of the biggest challenges businesses face, including recruitment and staff retention, sickness absence and employee productivity.

Susan Hutton, London Sport’s Director of Finance, People & Governance, said:

“I was extremely proud to collect a London Healthy Workplace Award for London Sport on Monday night – our staff’s workplace health is a key pillar of the London Sport strategy.

“We were delighted that some of the initiatives we put in place to create an environment that supports employee mental and physical health, including our Best Place To Work group, the great range of activities available for employees and our recognition programme were all highlighted.

“And because London Sport is an active organisation, we won’t be stopping there. There is always more to do around topics like healthy eating, alcohol awareness and further training.”

Dr Tom Coffey OBE, Mayor of London Health Advisor, said:

“Creating and fostering healthy workplaces has benefits for both employers and staff, improving physical and mental wellbeing, and leading to increased productivity and creativity.

“We want better health for all Londoners, and the London Healthy Workplace Awards both celebrates best practice and offers guidance for organisations to improve work standards.”
