Sport Tech Hub alumnus, Racefully, joins forces with England Athletics to support runners in lockdown

London’s Sport Tech community has continued to showcase its ability to provide a positive response to the covid-19 outbreak with Sport Tech Hub alumnus Racefully joining forces with England Athletics to support 250,000 runners.

Racefully is an award-winning social activity tracking app enabling people across the globe to exercise together virtually and has users in over 80 countries.

Their partnership with England Athletics (EA) gives all RunTogether groups, and EA-affiliated running clubs access to Racefully’s premium Tribe solution free of charge throughout the lockdown.

The tech provides a sense of community to EA groups as they can connect and run with each other virtually in real-time, giving a race-like experience even when running in different locations.

The collaboration comes just days after new Sport England data that showed 63% of adults miss the types of physical activity they were doing before lockdown.

Here, technology has a vital role to play in supporting Londoners to be active and connected, with the city’s SportTech community proving more than capable of supporting those who wish to be active.

And there’s real potential for further growth; almost two thirds of adults told the same survey that they consider exercise to be more important than ever during the current covid-19 outbreak.

Alex Zurita, Specialist Advisor for Technology, said:

“Apps such as Racefully and other tech businesses within the sport, fitness, wellness and health industry have an important role in keeping people moving and communities connected safely.

“We’ve already seen an amazing reaction from a huge number of innovative tech products and solutions from around the world in our Active at Home resource in response to the covid-19 outbreak.

“It’s great to see the tech community coming together to provide some really creative and innovative solutions to support people to be active and maintain positive mental health.”

Racefully co-founder Chris Pointon added:

“Racefully provides the perfect solution for clubs and teams to stay connected and keep fit together, even when team members are miles apart.

“We’re delighted to support EA’s Athletics and Running @home initiative and play our part in helping people keep as fit and healthy as possible during the lockdown”.
