Appeal following cash box robbery in Childwall

Detectives are appealing for information following a robbery in Childwall yesterday afternoon (Wednesday, 19 December).

Shortly before 2.15pm, a security guard was making a cash delivery at Childwall Post Office, Dunbabin Road when he was pushed into the doorway of the Post Office by two males wearing balaclavas and carrying large torches. The security guard sustained minor injuries during the incident.

The offenders took the cash box and reportedly left the scene in a blue van which was later found abandoned and burnt out on Dina’s Lane, Huyton. The cash box was later recovered near Woolfall Crescent, Huyton and has been taken for forensic examination.

Enquiries are ongoing to locate the offenders and anyone who may have information is asked to contact police.

Detective Inspector Lisa Ryan said: "Robberies of security guards are not victimless crimes. It is completely unacceptable for this guard to be subjected to this ordeal while he was simply trying to do his job.

"We are carrying out a number of enquiries around the Dunbabin Road area and the locations in Huyton where the van and cash box were found.

"This includes examination of CCTV footage and forensic enquiries, and we would be keen to hear from anyone who might have dashcam footage or CCTV at those locations. We also appeal for anyone who witnessed the incident itself or who saw the offenders acting suspiciously to get in touch.”

"Anyone with info is asked to contact @MerPolCC, 101 quoting incident reference 18400069430 or @CrimestoppersUK. Any information no matter how small will be treated with the utmost confidence and could assist with our investigation."
