10 years of celebrating Moray's Young Citizens

NOMINATIONS are now open for Moray’s Young Citizen Awards.

These awards recognise outstanding contributions to local or overseas communities, and are open to primary and secondary groups, community groups and individuals.

Jointly run by Moray Council, Diageo, Police Scotland and Elgin Rotary Club, the awards encourage school spirit; recognise good community work; build self-esteem and understand what citizenship means.

Nominations can be made under four award categories: primary school award; global citizenship; secondary school award and community award.

Moray Council’s Head of Schools and Curriculum Development, Vivienne Cross, hosted last year’s awards and is looking forward to the 2019 ceremony.

“These awards are now in their tenth year and are a real celebration of our inspirational young people here in Moray. I’m always humbled when, as part of the judging panel, I get to read about the achievements of our young people - and with this being the Year of Young People it has a special significance.

“We always have a tough job deciding who should win each category as the quality of entries is outstanding, and I doubt this year is going to be any easier!”

More information about award categories, and how you can nominate, can be found on Moray Council’s website: www.moray.gov.uk/moray_standard/page_61110.html.

The closing date for nominations is 31 January 2019.

Famous for its colony of dolphins, fabulous beaches and more malt whisky distilleries than any where else in Scotland, Moray is a thriving area and a great place to live. Nestling between Aberdeenshire and the Highlands, Moray stretches from Tomintoul in the south to the shores of the Moray Firth, from Keith in the east to Brodie Castle in the west.
