Council tax bills bar code error
Council Tax Bills – 2016/17
A proportion of council tax bills issued over the last two weeks have a misprint which could make payment difficult.
The problem has been identified with the barcode on the paper bills, which is used by Post Offices and PayPoint outlets to accept payment. The bar code cannot be read by their scanning equipment.
This has affected up to 10,000 bills, which are all produced by an external contractor. Those bills that are affected have been identified and replacement bills with a barcode that works have being issued today. This will only affect those that pay at the Post Office or PayPoint outlets, not those that pay by direct debit, online or any other method.
These should arrive in good time for the first Instalment, which is due on 1st April. When the replacement bills arrive the old ones should be destroyed.
