Moray Council to sponsor Tier 2 visas to attract teaching talent

TEACHERS from outside the EU can now apply for classroom teacher jobs in Moray.

Moray Council has become an official sponsor of Tier 2 General Visas, which means the authority can accept applications for teaching posts from those living outwith the European Economic Area.

STEM subject teachers (science, technology, engineering and maths) for Moray’s eight secondary schools are being prioritised, though applicants for other secondary subjects, and primary teachers, are also encouraged to apply.

Candidates must be registered, or in the process of registering with the General Teaching Council for Scotland and committed to remain teaching in Moray for the duration of the visa.

Applications take around three months to process, and securing a Tier 2 General Visa will be the responsibility of the applicant through the UK Home Office.

Chair of Moray Council’s Children and Young People’s Services Committee, Cllr Sonya Warren, said she was pleased that Moray was following neighbouring authorities in offering visa sponsorship to attract teaching talent.

“I’m thrilled that, for the first time, we’re able to accept applicants requiring a Tier 2 visa to teach here. It’s important that we cast a wide net to attract and retain talented teaching staff.

“Moray has so much to offer in terms of weather, landscape and lifestyle - and millions of pounds have been invested recently in our schools to create modern learning and working environments.”
