Notice of election and key dates published for General Election 2019

THE notice of election for the Moray constituency for the General Election has now been published after the writ arrived on 7 November, formally starting the process.

Voters will take to the polls on 12 December to elect an MP for Moray. Key dates in the run up to polling day include candidate nominations opening on 11 November, with four days to lodge nominations. Candidates will be formally announced following the close of nominations at 4pm on 14 November.

Voters have until 26 November to register to vote and apply for a postal vote, or make changes to their existing postal or proxy vote arrangements. You can apply to register to vote online at www.gov.uk/register-to-vote - to do this you’ll need your National Insurance number to hand. If you’re already registered to vote, you do not need to re-register.

Postal votes will be issued for existing postal voters around 27 November and, for newly-applied postal voters, around 3 December.

If you can’t get to your polling place on polling day, voters also have the option of appointing a proxy voter to vote on their behalf. More information on this is available at www.votemoray.org or voters can call the local Electoral Registration office on 01343 619819.

On Polling Day, 57 polling places will be in operation across Moray, open from 7am – 10pm.

Polling cards will be issued to registered voters in two issues with the first issue to registered voters around 20 November. You do not need your polling card to vote, but it helps staff in polling places if you bring it with you when placing your vote.

Results will be published on Moray Council’s website from 13 December, once the count has concluded. There will be updates posted on Moray Council’s Facebook and Twitter channels throughout the count.
